It was a threepeat for the women of the USA at the London 2012 Olympics, and in the five times a women’s soccer tournament has been played at the Olympics, America has won four gold and one silver.

#2: The US Men’s National Team Beats Mexico in Mexico

Until August, the Azteca was a seemingly impenetrable fortress for the US Men’s National Team, but a late goal from Michael Orozco Fiscal put America over the top for an historic win.

#1: Megan Rapinoe Comes Out

Megan Rapinoe coming out publicly to Out Magazine is your top story of the year! Her making this move — and talking about how coming out has improved her play — is a huge step for LGBT athletics. Rapinoe just sat down for an interview for the newest ESPN the Magazine and she reflects on her decision.
