World Cup 2018: First Homophobic Attack Reported
England’s Metro newspaper is reporting on the first violence of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, including the beating of a French gay man over the weekend.
The Frenchman identified as O Davrius was walking with a friend in Saint Petersburg and has been described as now being disabled after receiving brain injuries and a jaw fracture in the attack. His assailants were arrested and identified as two men from Dagestan, an area that borders Chechnya.
An England fan was also beaten and robbed as five men in Moscow demanded that he withdraw money from an ATM.
It’s not a great start to this year’s World Cup.
